A great new excuse in the making.

Always supposing I had a conventional job and I was sacked for dodging around adult chat rooms during working hours, I would accept my fate and try to make nice with my wife.

Not, however one James Pacenza, 58, of upstate Montgomery, recently given the Spanish Archer by IBM. Instead, "In papers filed in federal court in White Plains, Mr. Pacenza said the stress (he is a Viet vet) caused him to become 'a sex addict, and with the development of the Internet, an Internet addict.' He claimed protection under the American with Disabilities Act".

And he wants $5m in compensation....

Movie star Kirk Douglas's son Michael was the pioneer in the "sex addiction" scam. You're not a user of women. You have a medical condition. You're a sex addict and you're seeking help.

V _ I think sex 'addiction' does exist (more as a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder, probably), but some people ARE just sh1ts....
C _ I have never understood how the US, such a brash, entrpreneurial, success-positive society could, at the same time, have developed this parallel Nanny world of blame, dependency, shirking of personal responsibility etc. etc. _ which part of the American soul does that come from?

I quite like the sound of this.Calling all women! I have a serious illnes and today is the day you can do the best favour you ever did . Forget that blood donation and slide your sweet self over here and give me some honey .

For medicinal purposes .....

I wonder do women have the same problem ? Its hard to imagine somehow

It was more the internet addiction that interested me, and the idea that it is something that should be treated at corporate expense.

David - I blame the lawyers. It is worth noting that the more ridiculous tort suits tend to be conducted in the Appalachian states - especially Kentucky (I think) where juries are keen on handing out telephone number settlements. They tend to be knocked down on appeal, but sticking my neck out I do not see it as so much dependency culture as a misplaced desire to 'stick up for the little guy'.
