The shortage of sensible domain names is beginning to bite...

The World Economic Forum "has announced 39 visionary companies selected as Technology Pioneers 2008", which is nice.

However, note some of the names:

Garlik.com, 23andme.com, anecova.com, raindancetechnologies.com, resverlogix.com, fluxxion.com, ls9.com, imaginatik.com, kayak.com, polarrose.com and my 'favourite', qliktech.com.

Yup, they are all real.

Imaginatik - a 14 year old name, based on doctoral research into the diffusion of collaborative technologies. The research founds that certain technologies can be used in a wide variety of ways, and that often the limiting factor is the imagination of the firms and individuals. When imagination is applied well to technology, you tend to get above average results.

The term first appeared in Internaul Audit magazine in the UK in the early 1990s. Imaginatik was chosen as the company name in 1994.

Thanks for picking up on the WEF - being one of only three UK companies to be selected is a great honour.

All the best,

Mark Turrell
CEO, Imaginatik
